Deleting your TaskBuddy account and data

You can delete your TaskBuddy account, or just part of your family's data, at any time. Removing a child, a co-parent or an invitation is self-service in the app. Deleting the whole account is done by emailing us, and we act on it the same way.
Delete your whole account
Email us at privacy@gettaskbuddy.com from the address on the account, asking us to delete your family account.
We may ask you to confirm you control that address — without it, anyone who knew your email could erase your family's data. Once confirmed, deletion is processed as described below.
We are adding a self-service control in the app; until it ships, email is the route, and a request by email is honoured exactly the same way.
Delete only part of your data
You do not have to delete the whole account to remove a child. These are available now, in the app and on the website:
- Delete a child profile — Children → the child → Delete. Their tasks, points, photos and history go with them. The rest of the family is untouched.
- Remove a co-parent — Settings → Co-parents → Remove. This ends their access; it deletes nothing else.
- Cancel a pending invitation — Settings → Co-parents → Cancel invite.
For anything else, email privacy@gettaskbuddy.com and tell us what you would like removed.
What is deleted
When a family account is deleted, we permanently remove:
- the parent and co-parent accounts, including names, email addresses and password hashes;
- every child profile — names, usernames, PIN hashes, dates of birth and avatars;
- all photos children uploaded as task evidence, including thumbnails, from private storage;
- tasks, assignments, points, XP, streaks, achievements, rewards and redemptions;
- notifications and saved notification preferences;
- any pending co-parent invitations.
This is a hard deletion, not a flag. The records are removed from the database rather than hidden.
What is kept, and for how long
Two things deliberately outlive the deletion, and neither identifies you afterwards:
| What | What survives | What is removed | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Security audit log | That an event happened, when, and to which record | Every personal identifier in the event detail | Indefinitely, redacted |
| Email delivery log | That a message of a given type was sent, and when | The recipient address | Indefinitely, redacted |
We keep these skeletons because deleting them entirely would destroy the trail needed to investigate abuse of a child's account. Neither contains a name, an email address or any content after redaction.
Server request logs, which contain IP addresses, are discarded automatically after 30 days whether or not you delete your account.
How long deletion takes
Deletion is processed within 30 days. There is a short recovery window first, so that an accidental deletion can be undone — after that the data is gone and cannot be recovered by us or by you. Backups are rotated on a fixed schedule and expire.
